On the heels of the highly anticipated trial against the Knoedler Gallery and its director, Ann Freedman, an article about other famous art forgeries seemed appropriate. In my first monthly installment for Artsy, I explore some of history’s most compelling incidents of forgery. Although art forgery has been receiving much media attention during the past few decades, it’s a crime that reaches back for centuries and increased in frequency during the Renaissance. In the short article for Artsy, I discuss some of the most interesting cases of forgery, however misrepresenting art is a common practice. The clever ruses used by some of history’s notable forgers only emphasizes the need for thorough due diligence prior to purchasing art.

I’m thrilled to be writing art crime and art law articles for this art publication. You can read my future articles for Artsy by following me on Twitter or Artsy
